If you get captivated by the topic, it is an indication that you have, like many, including myself been wondering how people fall and how one can be steadfast in Christ. One of the frequent questions young believers ask is, how they can be born again and not backslide. It is not as though only young believers find it difficult to understand why Christians fall, but even Christians who have been in the faith for long still don’t understand why they experience repeated defeat and compromise. Out of frustration, some have gone out of their way to say no one can actually be free from sin while some would believe that grace will cover for all their sins after all that’s why Jesus Christ went on the cross to die.
While on my knees praying and meditating on how I can consecrate my life to Christ this morning, I felt God whispering to me the secrets of the fall of Christians. It came so strongly on me and I thought it wise to write it down. This article is not just for you, it is also for me because I pray that these words will become life into me and I will continually work in this truth.
God told me that, the same thing that made Satan fall is the same thing that makes people fall. Don’t forget Satan was created by God, too.
Let’s read Ezekiel’s account about him in Ezekiel 28:13 – 15.
“Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
From the above verses of the scripture, you could see that Satan was one of God’s creatures. He was endowed with awesome gifts and was assign a responsibility to take charge of Eden until iniquity was found in him. Satan did not just fall. It all started by harboring iniquity in his heart. The iniquity that was found in him that resulted in his fall is the same iniquity that has brought down small and mighty men of God. It is the root to every other sin. What is the iniquity? Let’s find out in Isaiah.
Isaiah 14:12 – 14:
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.”
Please take note of the first statement about Satan. To me, it describes how great and peculiar he was before his fall. He was Lucifer, son of the morning. He was a special angel endowed with outstanding gifts. He was not an ordinary Angel. He has influence and control over many other angels. No wonder one-third of the angels followed him when he fell.
But the gift got into his head and made him puffed up. He soon forgot that it was God who created Him. He forgot that it was God that placed him in that position. It could have been any other angel, but God decided to put him in that position. He was quick to forget that the beauty, special voice, talents and influence has been given to him by God. He forgot who he was and it led to his downfall.
How many of us are like Lucifer today. We are quick to judge him, but many of us are just acting like him today. If not for mercy and the grace in this dispensation, many of us would have met with the same fate as Lucifer. But thanks be to Christ for His grace. Unlike Satan, we can still repent of our sins and be forgiven. The door of grace is only shut against us after death.
So, all you need to do to remain steadfast in Christ is to watch your heart, especially when your gifts are beginning to be discovered and appreciated.
When you start blasting your exams, watch out for the spirit of Lucifer. When you start getting promotions in your workplace, watch out for the spirit of Lucifer. When your ministry starts growing, watch out for the spirit of Lucifer. When your business start growing, watch out for the spirit of Lucifer. When people start appreciating your sweat voice, skills, talent, etc., watch out carefully for the spirit of Lucifer.
People look at you as a fanatic when you say you’re what you’re by the grace of God, especially when you have attained a reasonable height in life or achieved something very commendable. The world like it when you talk like Lucifer. They want to meet you not God. They want to hear much of the schemes and strategies you applied to succeed. They don’t want to know that it is grace that makes you read once and understand what takes many days and months to understand. They don’t what to know how prayerful and serious you were before you got that success. They don’t want to hear that you wrote a prayer point to the church to intercede on your behalf for the business that is now blossoming. They don’t want to know how God delivered you from several evils, sicknesses, accidents, etc. so you can experience the success you’re being celebrated for. How foolish we are! May God have mercy on us!
It doesn’t always start big, it starts with small successes. From small achievement. From Small gifts and talents. It starts from being engrossed by your beauty. Drama ministers, be careful, this is what makes people fall.
